I’m Rick Gorman. more commonly known as Mr. Rick and am married to Paula Gorman, the Founder and Director. I joined the school in 2006 and teach Middle and High School English (Language Arts) in addition to other duties as Assistant Director.
I received a degree in English (English Literature prior to 1660) in 1976 and later returned to college to receive a Bachelor of Psychology in 1993 from Nova Southeastern University in Broward County, Florida. It was during my studies in Psychology that I met Paula, we graduated together in 1993 and were married in August of the same year. During that time and after graduating I worked as an adult Addictions Therapist in West Palm Beach. I swore I would never work with kids.
We moved to Lake City in July of 1994. After a couple months unable to find work in my field I reluctantly accepted a position with Meridian Behavioral HealthCare (then North Florida Mental Health) as a children’s counselor working in the Columbia and Suwannee County Schools. It was a life changing experience. I have been working with youth in various capacities ever since and love it. While at Meridian I also worked as an adolescent addictions therapist for several years. I later joined Children’s Home Society as the Family Builder’s Supervisor working closely with the Department of Children and Families in Columbia and the six surrounding counties. I stayed with Children’s Home Society until joining Paula at the school in 2006.
Being able to share my life long love of the English Language and Literature with your children has been, and continues to be, a wonderful, exciting, and frequently challenging experience.
In what little spare time I have, I continue to write poetry, short fiction and am currently working on a novel.
